Description

Plaintiff in error, Pearla McKinley (hereinafter "defendant"), was charged with the second-degree murder of Aaron Means, Jr.,
in violation of sec. 940.02, Stats. Upon arraignment defendant, who was represented by counsel, pleaded not guilty. Trial was had to a jury. During the trial the state proposed to offer in evidence three verbal statements and one written
statement given by defendant to the police, as a result of interrogation, in which she admitted killing Means. Defendant's
counsel objected thereto. A hearing was then conducted in the absence of the jury to determine the voluntariness of these
confessions. Upon the Conclusion of the hearing, the court made findings of fact in which it was determined that the confessions
were voluntarily made. After the jury was recalled, the three verbal statements and the one written statement were admitted
into evidence.
